Overview
Unit 2: Nganhthanun Bubu – Year 4 is an Aboriginal language unit for Year 4 students. It aligns to the Australian Curriculum’s Framework for Aboriginal Languages and Torres Strait Islander Languages.
Learning Objectives
In Lessons 1 to 10, students learn to: 
  • create sentences describing colours 
  • use a different noun to improve a sentence about colours 
  • use the commands miidaarra and yitharra to create sentences 
  • by adding a place to a statement using the commands miidaarra and yitharra 
  • create sentences relating eating and drinking 
  • enhance a sentence about eating and drinking by making them into commands 
  • compose sentences describing hot and cold 
  • by altering the time adjunct, improve sentences concerning hot and cold 
  • create sentences to express emotions 
  • use several emotion words to enhance sentences about emotions.
Assessment
Progress Test
In Lesson 5, teachers give progress tests to students to assess how well the students have learned the language so far and to identify the areas that require more instruction. The test questions are in the Teaching Guide, and students record their responses in a Student Workbook. 

End-of-Unit Assessment 
The final lesson is the end-of-unit assessment. It includes a range of question types (such as circle the correct word, sketch an image of something) to evaluate how well students have mastered the unit's material. The Teaching Guide contains the unit assessment. At test time, teachers make copies of the assessment and hand them to the students.
