Teach Corrective Reading is aligned to AITSL’s national teaching standards. Participants receive a certificate when they successfully complete the module. This can be used to demonstrate three hours of continuing professional development (CPD) for state or territory regulatory body requirements.

Participants will:

  • Understand the rationale for using Corrective Reading Comprehension Levels B2 and C
  • Understand the instructional design approach and how to address common reading skil defiencies.
  • Be able to present Corrective Reading Comprehension B2-C lessons.
  • Be able to motivate older students using a system based on realistic performance goals.

Program Overview

  • Direct Instruction overview, who the CRC program is for, program materials, placement tests, comprehension specific guidelines, CRC grouping and seating, lessons, lesson pacing, teachers guide, script features.  
Reasoning skills and information skills 
  • Learn teaching techniques, correction procedures and the progression of reasoning and information in Comprehension B2.  
Vocabulary skills, sentences skills, basic comprehension skills 
  • Learn teaching techniques, correction procedures and the progression of reasoning and information formats in Comprehension B2.  
Writing skills 
  • Learn teaching techniques, correction procedures and the progression of the writing skills format in Comprehension B2.  
Review skills 
  • Learn teaching techniques, correction procedures and the progression of the review skills format in Comprehension B2.  
Organising information 
  • Learn teaching techniques, correction procedures and the progression of the organising information format in Comprehension C. 
Using sources of information 
  • Learn teaching techniques and correction procedures for using sources of information formats in Comprehension C.  
Communicating information 
  • Learn teaching technique and correction procedures for communicating information formats in Comprehension C.  
Independent work, fact games, mastery tests and motivating students 
  • Learn how to monitor and check independent work, check and remediate mastery and explain ways to motivate students throughout a CRC B2-C lesson.  
Bringing it all together  
  • Synthesise all teaching techniques in this module to complete CRC B2 Lesson 20.
