Overview

In CYA Olympics, students will learn the skills and movement challenges required to participate in the Junior Sports Carnival.

Learning Objectives

In Lessons 1 to 9, students learn to:

  • run fast (sprint)
  • complete obstacle courses and relay races
  • throw a javelin
  • throw a foxtail (hammer throw)
  • throw a hula hoop (discus)
  • throw a frisbee
  • complete a standing long jump and vertical jump
  • jump for distance (long jump)
  • jump for height (high jump).
Assessment

Observations of individual skill components during each lesson and demonstration of skill at the school’s athletics carnival. Students to be assessed on performance of skill and active involvement in class activities.

  • run a relay race and hurdles race
  • run 800 meters. Running over a longer distance is known as middle distance running
  • throw a weighted ball (shot-put)
  • throw a weighted disc (discus)
  • jump for distance (long jump)
  • jump for height (high jump)
  • move during high jump.
