Modules

GGSA has over 300 modules that principals, instruction coaches, teachers, and teaching assistants can access. They are based on a wide range of subjects encompassed within effective teaching techniques and practices, positive high expectations behaviour, schools cycles of practice, and school improvement. They are clustered into five types of modules being: prerequisite modules, core modules, teaching program modules, practice modules, and mini modules.

Pre-requisite Modules

Pre-requisites are introduction modules that cover each of the course themes of effective teaching, positive high expectations, cycles of school practice and school improvement modules. All school roles complete these so that they develop a strong grounded understanding of these subjects.

Learn Effective Teaching Essentials (LETE)

Learn Effective Teaching Essentials is a professional learning module for principals, instruction coaches, teachers and teaching assistants that is aligned to AITSL national standards. Participants understand how effective teaching leads to increased learning and overall school improvement. They can implement effective teaching techniques and practices in programs and resources, apply student engagement strategies and build relationships with parents to support students’ school readiness.

Learn Cycles of School Practice (LCSP)

    Learn Cycles of School Practice is a professional learning module for principals, instruction coaches, teachers and teaching assistants. Participants will learn about the structure of the 8 Cycles of School Practice and understand how the cycles support effective teaching. They will learn how to engage in school-wide professional learning and how to participate in coaching in support of each team member’s professional development. Participants will also learn how to use school and classroom data reviews to support school improvement efforts, along with the processes for creating a culture of collaboration in the school. Embedding the cycles to strengthen parent and community engagement in student learning and school improvement efforts will also be a part of this module.

    Build Positive High-Expectations School Communities

    Positive High-Expectations School Communities is a professional learning module for Principals, Instruction Coaches, Teachers and Teaching Assistants. Participants understand the generic values and behaviours that are consistent with positive high expectations models. They also gain knowledge about the various decision-making procedures based on data and discuss about how to work in partnership with parents, families, and communities.

    Deliver Effective Teaching Techniques (DETT)

    Deliver Effective Teaching Techniques is a professional learning module for teachers and teaching assistants. Participants develop foundational knowledge and skills to understand and master practices that support effective teaching. They learn how to prepare the learning environment, promote positive behaviours, engage students through direct instruction, check for understanding, correct errors, provide feedback, facilitate independent practice, and assess for mastery. The module equips teaching teams with techniques for delivering structured, explicit instruction that improve student engagement and learning outcomes.

    Deliver Effective Teaching Techniques Coaching (DETTC)

    Deliver Effective Teaching is a professional learning module for teachers and teaching assistants that is aligned to AITSL national standards. Participants will understand the components of effective teaching resources. They can implement effective teaching techniques and practices in programs and resources, apply student engagement strategies and build relationships with parents to support students’ school readiness.

    Deliver Cycles of School Practice Leadership (DCSPL)

    Deliver Cycles of School Practice Leadership is a comprehensive professional learning module designed to empower school leaders in fostering a culture of continuous improvement within educational settings. It outlines eight distinct cycles of school practice, encompassing two domains and four key zones, each crucial for embedding effective teaching practices. The module underscores the principal’s pivotal role in implementing these cycles across the entire school team, emphasising leadership responsibilities in areas such as professional learning, data-driven assessment, peer collegiality, and community engagement.

    Deliver Cycles of School Practice Coaching (DCSPC)

    Deliver Cycles of School Practice Coaching is a professional learning module for instruction coaches. Participants will understand how the 8 Cycles of School Practice supports effective teaching. They will learn how to lead the school team in their professional learning plans and how to conduct classroom coaching in support of these plans. Participants will also learn how to hold school and classroom data reviews to support school improvement efforts and the processes for facilitating conversations and collaborating with the teaching team. 

    Deliver Cycles of School Practice in the Classroom (DCSPIC)

    Across 10 lessons, you will learn how to deliver cycles of school practice in your classroom. You will explore eight cycles across key domains and zones that support effective teaching. You will examine how professional learning, coaching, and peer collaboration improve classroom practice. You will learn to use assessment and mastery data to inform instruction and placement. You will also focus on engaging families and communicating progress to support continuous school improvement.

    Deliver Continuous Improvement Leadership (DCIL)

    Deliver Continuous Improvement Leadership is a comprehensive professional development tailored for dedicated school leaders aspiring to improve student results in their schools. Throughout this transformative journey, participants will gain profound insights into the principles of continuous improvement, delving into the critical role of school leaders in applying the Continuous Improvement Framework. The module unfolds with an exploration of the Improvement Model, laying the groundwork for understanding the principal’s impact in fostering a community with high expectations.

    Deliver Continuous Improvement Coaching is a professional learning module tailored for instructional coaches committed to elevating educational outcomes. This module unravels the intricacies of continuous improvement, shedding light on the indispensable roles of instructional coaches within the Continuous Improvement Framework. The exploration begins with a dive into the Improvement Model, establishing the foundation for understanding the pivotal impact of school leaders in fostering a community with elevated expectations. Participants delve into the Continuous Improvement Tracker (CIT), a dynamic tool that identifies effective teaching, tackles challenges, and engages leaders in the perpetual process of improvement.

    Deliver Continuous Improvement in the Classroom (DCIIC)

    Across 10 lessons, you will learn how to enhance teaching practices and student outcomes through assessments, technology and data. You will explore strategies for placing students in the right programs and maximising classroom time. You will learn to interpret and communicate assessment results to school leaders, colleagues and parents. You will also focus on using professional development, peer coaching and feedback to improve your teaching techniques. Finally, you will understand how to engage parents and build partnerships to support student progress in literacy, numeracy and overall learning readiness.

    Embed Effective Teaching Coaching (EETC)

    This course is designed for instruction coaches who work closely with teachers to enhance their teaching practices and improve student learning outcomes. Building on the foundational knowledge provided in Learn Effective Teaching Essentials, this course delves deeper into strategies and approaches specifically tailored for coaching educators.

    Embed Effective Teaching Techniques (EETIC)

    Embed Effective Teaching in the Classroom is a specialised course designed for educators who have already completed the Learn Effective Teaching Essentials module. This course serves as a continuation, leveraging the foundational knowledge acquired previously. Participants are presumed to possess a fundamental understanding of effective teaching techniques and are actively applying them in their teaching practices.

    Embed Cycles of School Practice (ECSP)

    Embed Cycles of School Practice is a professional learning module designed to guide school leaders, instructional coaches and teaching teams in embedding continuous improvement practices into everyday routines. This module explores the foundational Cycles of School Practice framework, which drives school-wide improvement through collaboration, data-driven decision-making and reflective leadership.

    Embed Continuous Improvement Leadership (ECIL)

    Across 10 lessons, you will learn how to enhance teaching practices and student outcomes through assessments, technology, and data. You will explore strategies for placing students in the right programs and maximising classroom time. You will learn to interpret and communicate assessment results to school leaders, colleagues, and parents.     English – Direct Instruction

    Teach Reading Mastery Signature Edition K, Year 1, Years 2–3, Years 4–5 (TRMSE)

    In this module, participants will learn how to teach Reading Mastery Signature Edition. This program uses the Direct Instruction approach, which is designed to help students master the fundamentals of beginning reading. It is intended for students who are appropriately placed according to the program’s placement test.

    Teach Reading Mastery Transformations Years 4–5 (TRMT)

    Teach Reading Mastery Transformations Year 4 and 5 (RMT 4-5) is a professional learning program module for teachers and teaching assistants. In this module, participants will understand the rationale for RMT 4-5 and how RMT 4-5 fits into Reading Mastery Transformations Reading programs. They will also understand critical teaching points, how to correct specific errors, how to conduct mastery tests, how to record assessment data and how to monitor and correct independent work in RMT 4-5.

    Teach Corrective Reading Decoding A–B1 (TCRD)

    Corrective Reading Decoding A–B1 is a professional learning module for teachers and teaching assistants. In this module, participants will understand the rationale for using CRD A/B1 and learn the correct pronunciation of sounds in CRD A/B1. They will also learn how to teach exercises, how and when to use the accompanying correction procedures, how to conduct workbook exercises and work checks, how to conduct mastery tests, how to record assessment data and how to motivate students.

    Teach Corrective Reading Decoding  B2–C (TCRD)

    Corrective Reading Decoding B2–C is a professional learning module for teachers and teaching assistants. In this module, participants will understand the rationale for using CRD B2/C and the various techniques to engage students. They will also learn how and when to use the accompanying correction procedures, how to conduct workbook exercises and work checks, how to conduct mastery tests, how to record assessment data and how to motivate students.

    Teach Language for Learning (TLFL)

    This course aligns with the Language for Learning Curriculum program. Teachers and assistant teachers should complete this course before using Language for Learning program in the classroom. Language for Learning is a language program for playschool students. It teaches students words and statements that are important to both oral and written language. The program teaches language as a way to describe the world and as a tool for thinking and solving problems.

    Teach Reading Mastery Signature Edition Language Arts K (TRMSE:LANG)

    In this module, participants learn how to teach Reading Mastery Signature Edition Language Arts K.
    The instructional design approach of RMSE LA K is direct instruction, designed for students who need basic language instruction. RMSE LA K is appropriate for students who are placed into RMSE LA K according to the program placement test. On completion, participants know how to present RMSE LA K lessons, as well as how to engage students using a system based on positive motivation. Leaders who have completed Learn Effective Teaching Essentials, Deliver Direct Instruction and Deliver Effective Teaching modules will be able to support teaching teams in delivering the programs. Teachers and teaching assistants can implement the techniques and practices, which include sequenced lessons providing students with practice in the language concepts and skills needed to succeed in school.

    Teach Reading Mastery Signature Edition Language Arts Years 1–2 (TRMSE:LANG)

    Reading Mastery Signature Edition Language Arts 1–2 is a professional learning module for teachers and teaching assistants. In this module, participants will understand the rationale for RMSE LA 1-2 and how RMSE LA 1–2 fits into Reading Mastery Signature Edition Language Arts programs.     Spelling Mastery is a professional learning module for teachers and teaching assistants. In this module, participants will understand the core instructional strategies for implementing Spelling Mastery accurately in order to accomplish basic direct instruction teaching techniques. They will also learn different ways to gather data and how to use data to inform instruction.

    Teach Expressive Writing (TEW)

    Teach Expressive Writing is a professional learning module for teachers and teaching assistants. In this module, participants will understand the core components of Teach Expressive Writing and the techniques needed for teaching Expressive Writing. They will also learn how to conduct mastery tests and record assessment data.

    Teach Oz-e-English: Writing (Language)

    Teach Oz-e-English Writing is a professional learning module designed for educators seeking to develop students’ writing skills and foster a love for writing through structured lessons, explicit instruction and integration across the curriculum. This module explores how the Oz-e-English Writing program enhances students’ understanding of language, literature and literacy while aligning with the Australian Curriculum for Years Foundation to 6.

      Teach Oz-e-English equips participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively deliver the English program. The module begins with an overview of the program’s purpose, its alignment with explicit instruction pedagogy and its role in supporting the Australian Curriculum. Participants will learn about the program’s structure, resources and implementation requirements.

      Teach Connecting Math Concepts A–F (TCMC, Years F–6)

        Teach Connecting Math Concepts is a professional learning module for teachers and teaching assistants. In this module, participants will learn about the core components of Teach Connecting Maths Concepts A and will be able to apply techniques needed for teaching the program effectively. They will also learn how to conduct mastery tests, record assessment data, provide remedies and apply strategies that motivate and engage students.

        Teach Corrective Mathematics (TCM)

          Teach Corrective Mathematics is a professional learning module for teachers and teaching assistants. In this module, participants will understand the core components of Teach Corrective Mathematics and apply the techniques needed for teaching Corrective Mathematics. They will also learn how to conduct mastery tests and record assessment data.

          Teach DISTAR K

            DISTAR Arithmetic K is a professional learning module for teachers and teaching assistants. In this module, participants will understand the rationale for using DISTAR Arithmetic K and learn about the materials, placement testing, grouping and use of positive praise. They will also understand the progression of the learning tracks of DISTAR Arithmetic K, the potential problems, and learn how to correct specific mistakes.

              Teach Oz-e-science Year F–6 (TOES)

              The Oz-e-Science program is based on explicit, teacher-led instruction and scientific inquiry. The program has a heavy focus on science content knowledge involving exposure to examples, understanding the logical rules or principles underpinning the examples, and applying this understanding to novel examples.

               

              Health and Physical Education / Every Child Is Special

              Learn How to Build Positive High-Expectations School Communities (LHBPHESC)

              Positive High-Expectations School Communities is a professional learning module for Principals, Instruction Coaches, Teachers and Teaching Assistants. Participants understand the generic values and behaviours that are consistent with positive high expectations models. They also gain knowledge about the various decision-making procedures based on data and discuss about how to work in partnership with parents, families, and communities.

              Teach Character Development (TCD)

              The Teach Character Development module provides teachers with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to deliver the Character Development program with fidelity. Participants will be given an overview of Character Development and explore teaching practices to facilitate development by defining core competencies and how they relate to Character Development.

              Teach Social-Emotional Learning (TSEL)

              The Teach Social-Emotional Learning module provides teachers with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to deliver the Character Development program with fidelity. Participants will be given an overview of Social-Emotional Learning and explore teaching practices to facilitate development using Self-Awareness, Emotional Regulation. Social-Awareness and Social Skills.

              Deliver Positive High-Expectations Leadership (DPHEL)

              Positive high-expectations schools cultivate a culture that values learning and supports every child to reach their full potential. In this module, participants will learn how to lead a school in teaching values, expectations and character strengths, lead the sharing of data to show improvement and partner with parents in leading positive high expectations.

              Deliver Positive High-Expectations Coaching (DPHEC)

              Deliver Positive High-Expectations Coaching is a professional learning module for school coaches. Upon completion of this module, participants will understand the roles and responsibilities of the school coach in promoting the practices and decision-making procedures that shape a school’s positive high–expectations culture.

              Deliver Positive High-Expectations Classroom Practices (DPHECP)

              Deliver Positive High-Expectations Classroom Practices is a professional learning module for teachers and teaching assistants. Upon completion of this module, participants will understand and be able to apply foundational classroom management practices and techniques to improve their classroom’s climate and contribute to the shaping of a positive high-expectations school culture. They will learn how to embed rules and routines, use positive reinforcement effectively, improve their engagement norms and practices, and learn strategies and procedures for preventing and addressing inappropriate behaviour on a continuum.

              Support Families in Positive High-Expectations Schools (SFPHES)

              Support Families in Positive High-Expectations Schools is a professional learning module for Principals, Instruction Coaches, Teachers and Teaching Assistants. Participants will learn the components of positive, high-expectations zones and understand how positive, high-expectations zones are characterised by a belief in the potential of every student. They’ll also learn how to partner with parents and understand how to teach students the values, expectations, behaviours and character traits to increase learning and positive behaviour.

              Embed Positive High-Expectations Leadership (EPHEL)

              Positive high-expectations schools foster a culture that values learning and supports every child to reach their full potential. In this module, you will learn how to lead a positive high-expectations school by supporting the development, implementation, and evaluation of the programs and practices in the school-wide Behaviour Management Model.

              Embed Positive High-Expectations Coaching (EPHEC)

              Embed Positive High-Expectations Coaching is a course module for school coaches that enables them to make the shift from implementing their school’s Behaviour Management Plan in year one to solidifying the school’s positive culture and ensuring sustainability in practices, programs and procedures across years two and three.

              Embed Positive High-Expectations Classroom Practices (EPHECP)

              Embed Positive High-Expectations Classroom Practices is a professional learning module for teachers and teaching assistants. Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to make the shift from delivering behaviour management practices and procedures toward achieving a positive culture and climate in their classroom which is both sustainable and continuously improving.

              Influence Positive High-Expectations Classroom Practices (IPHECP)

              This module empowers teachers to influence positive high-expectation classroom practices by establishing and reinforcing school-wide behaviour management strategies and fostering a collaborative school culture. Teachers will learn how to implement key Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and structured routines to promote a positive school environment

              Lead Positive High-Expectations Classroom Practices (LPHECP)

              The Lead Positive High Expectations Classroom Practice (LPHECP) module equips practitioners at the Lead stage of the Mastery Teaching Pathway with the skills to move beyond influencing peers to leading colleagues and embedding school-wide systems. It positions participants to model exemplary practice, build the capacity of others and sustain improvement efforts that promote positive high-expectations across the school community.

              Set Up Classrooms for Positive Behaviour (SUCPB)

              Set Up Classrooms for Positive Behaviours is a professional learning module designed for all role holders within schools to support the implementation of positive high-expectations classrooms. Across 10 lessons, you will learn to transform your classroom into an environment that automatically promotes positive behaviour. You will discover how behaviour responds to environmental stimuli and how intentional design prevents problems before they occur.

              Teach Rules and Routines

              Teach Rules and Routines is a professional learning module designed to support staff in schools to establish clear, consistent and predictable learning environments. Across 10 lessons, you will learn that teaching behavioural expectations is just as critical as academic instruction. You will discover how to break complex rules into concrete, teachable steps that all students can understand and follow. You will learn to align classroom routines with school-wide systems to create a unified culture of high expectations, saving valuable instructional time and reducing behavioural incidents. The module provides strategies for positive reinforcement, proactive prompting and fostering student ownership through peer recognition and self-monitoring.

              Participate on the BMT

              Participate on the BMT is designed for all role holders within schools. Participants learn to participate effectively on the Behaviour Management Team (BMT). They unpack team roles and data-based decision making. Beginning with the changing needs of students, participants explore how BMTs guide whole school behaviour systems. The module guides them through structured teamwork that strengthens clarity and follow through. Participants master analysing behaviour data, planning targeted interventions and communicating decisions with consistency.

              Deliver Executive Function Development Activities is a professional learning module designed for educators seeking to develop students executive functioning through specific activities and targeted conversations. This module provides an in-depth exploration of how executive function skills—such as working memory, cognitive flexibility, self-control and problem-solving—support student learning, behaviour and independence.

              Deliver Special Needs Support with Direct Instruction

              Special Needs Support with Direct Instruction is a professional learning module designed for educators and teaching assistants seeking to enhance their expertise in supporting students with special needs through evidence-based practices and direct instruction methods. Participants will gain comprehensive understanding of contemporary disability frameworks, diagnostic testing procedures, and inclusive education practices within the Australian educational landscape.

              Deliver Special Needs Support Classroom Practices (DSNSCP)

              Deliver Special Needs Support Classroom Practices is a professional learning module for classroom teachers and teaching assistants working to deliver targeted, high-quality support for students with special educational needs. This module focuses on day-to-day practices that ensure consistent implementation of the Special Needs Support Program in inclusive classrooms. Participants will explore how to observe student needs, interpret assessment data and use planning tools to personalise instruction.

              Deliver Special Needs Support Coaching (DSNSC)

              Deliver Special Needs Support Coaching is a professional learning module designed for instructional and community coaches supporting implementation of the Special Needs Support Program across a school. The module explores the coaching role in ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery of inclusive practices that meet the needs of students with additional learning or behavioural needs.

              Deliver Special Needs Support Leadership (DSNSL)

              Deliver Special Needs Support Leadership is a professional learning module designed for principals who are leading the implementation of inclusive support across their school. This module equips school leaders with the knowledge, structures and routines required to embed the Special Needs Support Program as a core part of school improvement planning and practice.

              Deliver Life Mastery Class (DLMC)

              This module is designed for teachers and teaching assistants delivering Life Mastery as a structured intervention program for students on a behaviour plan or with additional needs. Teachers and teaching assistants deliver Life Mastery lessons using explicit instruction and predictable lesson structures. They unpack the purpose of Life Mastery and its alignment to Tier 2 and Tier 3 support and the nine executive function domains of the BRIEF-2 framework.

              Embed Supporting Students with Low Executive Function (ESSLEF)

              This module is designed for principles, instruction coaches, teachers and teaching assistants. Participants learn to strengthen students’ executive function skills and support regulation across behaviour, emotion and cognition. They unpack explicit instruction techniques and predictable lesson structures. Beginning with understanding executive function data, participants explore observation, assessment and team decision-making. The module guides them through integrating executive function strategies into behaviour support and instructional routines, ensuring consistency across classrooms.

              Identify Students’ Executive Function Challenges and Deliver Appropriate Intervention (ISEFCDAI)

              This module is designed for Principals, Instruction Coaches, Teachers, and Teaching Assistants. Participants learn to understand executive function and its impact on student learning and behaviour. They unpack the five areas of executive function and how executive function challenges present in classroom contexts. Beginning with a shared definition of executive function, participants explore the relationship between executive function, engagement, learning, and behaviour. The module guides them through a structured process for identifying executive function challenges that supports more accurate and inclusive responses to student needs. Participants master recognising executive function-related behaviours, identifying impacted executive function areas, and aligning appropriate supports to individual student profiles.

              Anita Archer: Explicit Instruction Strategies in English
              This professional development series provides educators with research-informed strategies to inform vocabulary instruction and the teaching of writing in their classrooms. Presented by Anita Archer, each module focuses on practical techniques immediately applicable to increase student engagement, comprehension and skill mastery.

              Educators will learn to identify critical vocabulary from texts, adopt evidence-based strategies such as teaching relative words, known synonyms and word pairs. Modules on writing instruction provide structured approaches on how to teach writing genres, frames and ways of motivating students. Participants will also explore techniques for eliciting student responses, giving feedback in real-time and scaffolding student work with compare-and-contrast think sheets.

              Well-known researchers and authors of Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI), John Hollingsworth and Silvia Ybarra, have visited Australia a number of times, hosted by Good to Great Schools Australia. With the invaluable contributions of their son Joe Ybarra, their work has impacted classrooms across Australia and armed teachers with proven effective teaching practices that lead to student success. This course assembles their collected wisdom and skill in instruction to tackle the heart of EDI. It does so by shedding light on some of the key principles, strategies and techniques at the core of this powerful approach, provided to educators in detail with the aim of optimising student learning and engagement.
