Teach Connecting Math Concepts is aligned to AITSL’s national teaching standards. Participants receive a certificate when they successfully complete the module. This can be used to demonstrate three hours of continuing professional development (CPD) for state or territory regulatory body requirements.

Participants will:
  • understand the rationale for using Connecting Math Concepts and learn how Oz-e-maths connects to Connecting Math Concepts.
  • understand the progression of the eight learning tracks of Connecting Math Concepts at your year level, the potential problems, and learn how to correct specific mistakes.

  • Learn components, time requirements, placement testing, board displays, and maths learning behaviours for Connecting Math Concepts.
Connecting CMC to Oz-e-math
  • Learn the connections between Connecting Math Concepts and Oz-e-maths and when to teach Oz-e-maths lessons.
Counting A
  • Understand the teaching techniques and correction procedures of the counting track exercises.
Counting B, symbols
  • Understand the teaching techniques and correction procedures of the counting track exercises.
Equality and equations, place value
  • Understand the teaching techniques and correction procedures of equality and equations and place-value exercises.
Plus (addition)
  • Understand the teaching techniques and correction procedures of plus (addition) exercises.
Take away (subtraction)
  • Understand the teaching techniques and correction procedures of take away (subtraction) exercises.
Word problems
  • Understand the teaching techniques and correction procedures of word problem exercises.
Motivating students and independent work
  • Learn ways to motivate students, give effective positive feedback, and conduct independent work and work checks.
Mastery tests, parallel lessons and cumulative tests
  • Learn how to conduct and record mastery and cumulative tests, and how to provide remediation.
  • Understand guidelines for parallel lessons.
Bringing it all together
  • Synthesise all teaching techniques in this module to complete a whole lesson.
